Gratitude, patience, listening, and care are first learned at home. Confucius implies that how a person behaves with family predicts how they will treat others later. This does not mean parents must demand stiff obedience; it means they should shape a home where respect is mutual and alive. When parents speak kindly of their own parents, serve them faithfully, and foster peace among siblings, the child sees that love is not only a feeling but a way of acting in close relationships.
