Teachers, mentors, and role models—those who are 'worthy'—deserve honor in a child's eyes. The way parents speak about teachers and community leaders either builds or erodes that honor. Criticizing them harshly in front of children can undermine both respect and the learning relationship. At the same time, Confucius insists that the noble person is compassionate toward those who struggle—classmates who are slower, siblings who lag behind. Parents can help children see excellence as something to admire and reach for, while still treating those who are weaker with kindness, not contempt. In this way, the home becomes a small training ground in both aspiration and mercy.
