Parents often fill silence with more words—more instructions, more reminders, more corrections. Yet children, especially young ones, absorb tone and action far more effectively than lectures. When a parent speaks less but follows through consistently, the child learns that words carry weight. The opposite—constant talking with inconsistent action—teaches the child to tune out. Confucius would have us ask: do my words outpace my deeds? If so, fewer words and more action would serve my child better.
