Clothing and Dignity
The noble person does not use dark blue or maroon as trim, nor does he wear red or purple in informal dress.
Confucius' attention to clothing was not vanity but moral sensitivity. How we present ourselves signals respect—for the occasion, for others, and for ourselves. The right clothing in the right context is a form of ritual (li), a way of showing that we take situations and relationships seriously.
