Forgiving Past Wrongs
The Master said, 'Bo Yi and Shu Qi did not dwell on old resentments, and so they had few complaints against them.'
Bo Yi and Shu Qi were legendary brothers praised for their integrity. Confucius highlights a particular quality: they did not cling to old grudges. The result was that others bore them little ill will in return. Not dwelling on past wrongs creates a cycle of release that lightens everyone's burden.
